How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does
it represent social groups or issues?
My product challenges conventions because we used props such as
pens and certain clothing to match our scenes and we had to think everything
through to make it like a real movie, we even had to dress better on certain
days or wear the same clothes to school so we could match and shoot the scenes.
Each character had a job to do and if they weren’t there we had to either work
with what we had or just film the scenes they were not included in. Spontaneous
things happen and it makes you learn to improvise and be fast on your feet to
think of solutions to your problems
2. How does your product engage with
audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with audience because it has a little bit of
humor while still getting the point across trying to sell the pen and show that
it is smear proof. It demonstrates that everyone wants our pen because it is
the best on the market so people keep stealing it and playmate’s slogan is “the
world’s most stolen pen” which honestly did not make any sense to me at first
but then I understood it after my group explained it. This demonstrates it will
have you thinking about the commercial long after you watched it to understand
the slogan.

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
My production skills developed throughout this project because I
have never done anything that had to do with video making. I had no clue about
everything that you had to do and how many times you had to reshoot a scene. I
was the person who my group assigned to film, so I had to learn how to film and
get the correct angles. I had to click the start and stop buttons at the
correct times, which is more difficult than it seems. We all had to learn how
to edit which I still do not know how to do very well but I will get it. I
would say I learned a bit of editing and I developed filming skills. I learned
certain angles and how to portray things to look different on camera than they
are in real life. That’s when it is really crucial, you have to get everything
precise or it messes up the flow of all the scenes.

How did you
integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
We used a phone to
film and we used certain apps to help us edit, we actually tried all different
apps and websites for the editing because we couldn’t find the right one. We
tried Adobe, iMovie, Filmaker Pro, and several others. I think the algorithm on
iMovie was the easiest to use of all of them. We ended up using imovie because
of the fact that it was easiest and most simple.
